Happy New Year from all at Vario

Like much of Europe we've had another big dump of snow over the last few days, and heavy clouds promise to send some more snow our way before the weekend is over.

Vario HQ is feeling very peaceful today, as many of our customers are closed, and except for Matt and myself almost everyone here has taken the week off.

It has however been a great opportunity to spend some time clearing out all the junk from my office, something I know I won't get round to again 'till this time next year. Those who know me (and my famous office) will know it's never looked so uncluttered...

In a disused filing cabinet I found a few old posters (1996 I think??) of World Champ Francois Dola - who is still riding for Vario in Masters category - like the one you can see here on my wall above the World map. In a fit of festive cheer I'll send one of these collectors items to the first person to post us a Happy New Year comment !

We've also been spending a bit of time talking through the 2007 and 2008 ranges - gazing into our crystal ball to try and work out what bikes to design next.

Whatever happens, we know 2006 is going to be a very busy year for us, with some great new riders on our team, some great bikes (did I mention our new Oxyd LT won a magazine "Best of Test" recently?) and some great rides too I hope.

So to our English readers: may we wish you a Very Happy, Healthy and Freeridey New Year!

(We'll wish a HNY to our French readers on Jan 1st - a little cultural difference I didn't realise!)

Sophie Borderes rejoint Vario !

Sophie, la jeune et talentueuse descendeuse pyréneenne, intègre le team Vario Châtel pour 2006.
Forte de ces très bons résultats internationaux (4ème junior au championnat du Monde, 2ème junior en Europe), Sophie essaira avec notre soutien de progresser encore en participant à toutes les manches européennes des coupes du monde, ainsi qu'a toutes les manches nationales de descente.

Elle a recemment essayé le nouvel Harissa Race, qui lui a donné entière satisfaction dès les premiers tours de roues. A noter aussi que la demoiselle sera aidée par notre représentant à Lourdes le magasin Mountain Ride 65.

English: Miss Sophie Borderes on Vario!

It's officially the best news since Cyrille signed on the dotted line a few weeks ago (but somehow even more exiting!?). That we are to be joined on the WC and French DH circuit next season by a young, and incredibly promising, DH rider from the Pyrenees region of France called Sophie Borderes.

Brought to our team via her local shop Mountain Ride 65, this young lady has already achieved results of 4th at Junior Worlds and 2nd in the European Champs, and looks set to bring home more silver during 2006 on her new Harissa.

Vario dans la télé !

Dimanche soir et hier midi, nous sommes passés aux informations de France 3 éditions nationale lors d'un reportage sur l'économie sportive. 2 minutes d'images nous sont consacrées, avec plusieurs interviews de responsables, le tout pour faire un point sur notre activité.
Vous y verrez la conception des cadres, la mise en couleur, et le montage.

Hips en presse !

Nos amis du Team Hips ont fait parler d'eux récemment dans la presse spécialisée...
Tout d'abord dans le dernier Ride it # 9 avec un article sur leurs terres varoises ainsi qu'un article sur la Kordova Cup, rédigé et photographié par Jérôme du team.
Et puis avec Jérémy, dit "Sousou", en photo dans Big Bike, à l'occasion de la Kordova Cup.


Enfin pour le plaisir des yeux, quelques photos de sessions à Vitrolles sur les terres des Easy rider, ou à Luminy, quartier marseillais sont dispo sur leur site.

Presque 2000 visites en 2 semaines d'existance, le nouveau blog vous plait bien apparemment.
Pour nous aussi, le concept est vraiment pratique est permet une réelle réactivité de l'info.
Bref, de bon résultats et tous le monde est content...

Mais... n'ayez pas pas peur de poster des commentaires !! C'est facile, ça nous permet d'avoir votre ressenti sur les infos et puis ça ouvre le dialogue... Alors à vous de jouer !

We've been at this blogging lark for a few weeks now, and about 2000 of you have logged on the site so far, which is nice.

For us it allows us to tell you a little of what happens behind the scenes here (not too much though, most of it revolves around the coffee area and is pretty dull...) and get to know you all a bit better.

Session ski aux 7 Laux !

Les pistes VTT des 7 Laux encore visibles malgré la neige !

Une petite partie de l'équipe est allée profiter de la neige fraichement tombée aux 7 laux le week end dernier, 50 cm de bonne poudreuse nous ont permis de profiter de toutes les possiblitées de ride de la station, en se faisant plaisir au maximum.

A couple of the staff here at Vario recently headed for the hills, in order to enjoy some of the fresh powder that's dumped here these past few weeks.

As you can see from the pics, there's not much depth, and you can still see rocks and the trail signs for the (Vario supported) MTB trails.

The guy hacking it through the undergrowth with the foot-out scruffy style is little old me! Though I fell over just out of shot. Again.

Vincent Perron récompensé !

Vincent Perron, cofactory Vario, c'est vu récompensé le 3 décembre dernier par le comité Rhône Alpes FFC pour son podium en coupe régionale de descente chez les juniors.
Vincent avait apporté son maillot, et il prépare avec son frère Etienne une grosse saison 2006 en coupe régionale mais aussi sur les épreuves nationales.
Leur programme sera aussi tourné vers la vidéo et la photo, avec une production d'images à découvrir tout au long de l'année !

Des nouvelles d'Esteban

Esteban Deronzier, l'un de nos descendeurs prometteurs, s'entraine lui aussi comme un fou pour la saison prochaine. C'est nottament lui que vous pouvez admirer sur la session caméra embarquée du DVD Vario. Adepte des passages aériens ou North Shore, il s'est contruit dans son jardin une sympathique série de passerelles et autres wall ride, afin de travailler les passages en courbes négociés à fond.



On attends de voir le mêmes passsages d'ici peu, négociés sous la neige à VTT ou à Ski !

Français : Grosse présence Vario dans les magazines anglais !

C'est une très bonne nouvelle pour nous, Vario est de plus en plus présent dans la presse anglaise, avec les pilotes qui roulent Vario en Grande Bretagne, nottament sur les célèbres Dragon Series, mais aussi par les réportages fait en France.

Edge Magazine

Once in a while I wander over to Edge magazine, a really creative UK MTB webzine that you can download in .pdf format.

Back in November they released issue 4, and appart from it being a damn fine read, and great photo's, it's also pretty good on pages 8 & 18!

Ben Calwell in MBUK!

Not just one, but two recent editions of MBUK have great pics of our oh-so-stylish Ben Caldwell in Dragon's action!




Riding his trusty Harissa as one of our UK Co-Fac riders, Ben's finished 6th from 91 in the Midlands series, 15th from 147 in the renowned Dragon series, and ended in 20th from 95 at NPS!
